About Dr. Baran
Dr. Shant J. Baran is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon serving patients in Leominster, Gardner, and communities throughout Central Massachusetts. He joined Central Mass Oral Surgery in 2009 after completing his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency.
Dr. Baran grew up in Dubai before his family moved to the United States. Having spent much of his young adult life as an athlete, he developed an interest in surgery after experiencing several sports-related injuries.
Dr. Baran works to ensure that patients understand their procedures and feel comfortable throughout their care. Although introduced as a doctor, he prefers to treat patients like friends and create a welcoming atmosphere on a first-name basis. He and the Central Mass Oral Surgery team strive to make every office visit as reassuring and comfortable as possible.
Education
Dr. Baran earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in economics and biology from Boston University in 1999.
He continued his education at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency
Dr. Baran completed five years of advanced oral and maxillofacial surgery training through Boston University Medical Campus, finishing his residency in 2009.
His hospital-based training included administering anesthesia for oral surgery and performing a broad range of oral and maxillofacial procedures.

Academic and Hospital Affiliations
Dr. Baran is an Instructor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. In this role, he works with dental students and oral and maxillofacial surgery residents in the school’s ambulatory oral surgery clinic.
He is also on staff at UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital, where he provides trauma and emergency care.
Personal Interests
Outside the practice, Dr. Baran enjoys skiing, traveling, and cooking. He is fluent in Spanish and Armenian.
