Shant Baran, DMD

About Dr. Baran

Dr. Shant J. Baran grew up in Dubai, and his family moved to the United States before he began his advanced education in oral surgery. Dr. Baran spent most of his young adult life as an athlete, and he was drawn to the idea of surgery after incurring many sports-related injuries. He earned two undergraduate degrees from Boston University in 1999 and went on to dental school shortly after.

Dr. Baran was recruited by Central Mass Oral Surgery after completing his residency. He works hard to make sure patients understand their procedures and preserve their smiles. He likes his patients to know that he is introduced as a doctor but tries to treat all patients as friends, forming a comfortable atmosphere on a first name basis. Our office staff works hard to establish a comforting office environment for every patient visit.

Education

He received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in economics and biology. He then continued his education at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine to earn his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry. Dr. Baran went on to complete his residency in 2009 before beginning at Central Mass Oral Surgery the same calendar year. He is currently a professor at Boston University for the dental program, and on staff at UMass Memorial HealthAlliance Hospital in Massachusetts for trauma and emergency care.

Residency

Dr. Baran completed years of additional training for his surgical residency at Boston University Medical Center. He received extensive training to administer anesthesia and perform oral surgery procedures. Dental implants, wisdom teeth, and full-arch reconstructive surgery are just a few of the treatments he performs at the practice.

Hobbies and Interests

When he isn’t working, Dr. Baran enjoys skiing, traveling, and cooking. He is also fluent in Spanish and Armenian.
